RE: Need an assist
I think if you look into it, he's not marking it that much. Having Items imported, trips the alarm bell in most countries. I think you will find the items are heavily taxed. The tax is quite heavy on luxury items. Farm equipment and production equipment are less taxed. That is unless it's make in the home country. If you country makes motor homes or trailers, then you will find the items will be really heavily taxed. Plus you have the shipping cost added on. I would ask around and see how much of your stated price is taxes. You might find that you will be paying this tax at the dock to your locale customs office. Just My Honest Opinion, hey mate, put another steak on the Barbie, and not a Joey steak. Good Luck Bill

Thanks for that as I appreciate any comments.
Australia and the US signed a Free Trade Agreement last year that means that we can import a TT or 5'er into Aussie at 10% Federal Tax on original purchase cost.
Shipping costs for a 40' Container from the West Coast are around US$4,000.
RV Wholesalers.com are selling New 2008 bare boned Units in the range of US$15,0000 to US$25,000. I have seen used 2006 5 Wheelers with 2002 Silverados for $30,000 on your Used Sites.
The China boom has given Australia one of highest living standards in the World for the last 15 years and our $ exchange rate to the US$ is almost equal. So a Local Dealer selling King of the Road 31's is a huge rip-off.
Regards mate and I will throw a couple of Shrimps on the barbie for you plus a slab of Croc.

RE: Travel Trailer for Aussie
My immediate concern is the appliances wont work on your electrical outlets. I would not reccomend a TT from here unless you have a 110 power supply, like a generator from here also. I wouldnt think the TT will be compatable with your system there. Just give it a tad more thought before taking the plunge.
The Aussie Companies bringing in Playmoor's, King of the Road and Zingers 5's are buying them from your Wholesalers bare-boned with NO appliances and simply fitting 240V appliances. The standard of wiring is OK as while we use 240v we only run 15 Amps.

I am seriously looking to import a Travel Trailer or 5 Wheeler into Australia after a 12 month tour around the States and Canada.
I need to concentrate on a full, strongly constructed, aluminum framed rig with independent suspension and a vinyl roof as the rubber roofs quickly deteriorate due to our higher UV radiation. We don't have smog but bloody long distances and rough roads !!
I am looking for something mid weight up to 30' with a entry door and two sleeping areas and slideouts. The 2006 Cougar 306 has such a floorplan but hell there must be mobs of Manufactures knocking this stuff out. So I hope you lads can make some suggestions.
I live in the bush and was in the Capital City of Perth, Western Australia on the weekend and went to have look at a Dealer imported, stock standard, King of The Road F33RLTS 5 wheeler modified for Australian Licensing going for the small price of US$130,000. God they were asking US$90,000 for stock standard 27' Playmoor's and that's a rip-off.
I hope some of the expert Guru's on this list can assist with a bit of sound advice to an old Grunt in his dotage plus hopefully the names of a few Wholesale Dealers or even decent Dealers.

RE: Rear Door Entrance Models
Thanks for that Mate.
Yes any left hand or rear door access Unit would pass our State registration process. I am now aware that there is also a Zinger which is similar.
Because you fellah's have a lot of experience I am hoping you can help me with a couple of silly questions.
1. How "bare-boned" can Factory Units be ordered as the other problem here is that all the magor appliances have to be 240v. 10v lighting is not a problem. Can Units be ordered with upgraded wiring as changing plugs is not a problem.
2. Are Units manufactured with aluminium framing all fibre glass bodies and with independent or flex suspension.
3. Are outlets such as RVWholesalers any good and is there a similar
outfit in the West Coast Sates.
Any info appreciated.
Regards.

The Komfort Trailblazer T273FBS fiver has a rear door entrance into the bunkroom back there. However, it also has another entrance door on the side. Would that qualify in Australia?

I am going to undertake a 12 month Motorhome trip around the States of the West Coast of North America shortly and at the end of it I want to import a Used Fifth Wheeler to Aussie.
Trouble is I need a light weight 5 Wheeler Model around 28' maximum with a Rear Entrance Door as your side door Models can't be registered in Aussie. It would also be better if the exterior was Glass as laminated rubber roofs rot in our high UV environment.
I am aware that such models exist and I am hoping that some of the Gurus on this Forum might give me some info.
I am also aware that some 5 wheeler manufacturers in the States are building Units to meet Australian Standards.
This generally means 240v wiring and upgraded 240v appliances but if I import a Yankee Model I can get around the electrics by going 12v and full inverter Solar plus 120v silenced Generator.
New Fifth Wheelers are just starting to catch on in Australia but the retail prices are ridiculous. I looked at a basic Fibre Glass 24' Unit (without any slideouts) last weekend and the price was US$120,000.
Any and all advice would be appreciated.
Regards.
